The Palace of Salazar, or Palace of the Viscondessa do Espinhal, was built by order of Bernardo Salazar Sarmento d'Eça Alarcão at the end of the eighteenth century. In 1818 the building was completed the central body by the children of Desembargador Bernardo Salazar. One of his sons was Maria da Piedade de Mello Sampaio Salazar, the Viscondessa of Espinhal, deserving of a large town of Lousã.

The Palace is associated with episodes of the Napoleonic wars. "It is known that the Marshal Massena, commander of the Napoleonic troops, was installed in this house at the time belonging to the father of Viscountess. On March 16 of 1811, troops commanded by Marshal Ney installed on the left bank of the river Ceira, received an unexpected attack of the vanguard troops nightwork the Anglo-lusas and plunge into panic by narrow medieval bridge and a ford, and was defeated.
Meanwhile, Massena, preparing themselves for dinner, but upon receiving the news of the disaster at the Battle of Foz de Arouce, fled hastily. Soon after, the Duke of Wellington hampers triumphant in Lousã, and sit at the table who abandoned Massena, was doubled like enjoy with dinner that had been prepared for the enemy ...
